WHERE THE DREAM BEGINS!
DAWSON CREEK SET TO HOST
2021 NATIONAL WOMEN’S
DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The dream begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia for the top female under-18 players in the country. Hockey Canada has announced that the 2021 National Women’s Under-18 Championship is heading to the Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek, British Columbia October 31st – November 6th, 2021.
The 2021 National Women's Under-18 Championship, a showcase of Canadian women's under-18 hockey, represents a continuing partnership between Hockey Canada, B.C. Hockey, and the local host committee. Eight teams will represent their home provinces/regions and will be facing off inside the Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek and will be an opportunity for Hockey Canada’s scouting staff to evaluate players from across Canada. These elite Provincial teams not only compete for a gold medal, but since the tournament’s inception in 2001, it has been a first step towards international gold by vying for a spot on Canada’s National Women’s Team.
“We have established a great relationship with Dawson Creek, and we are thrilled to be heading back to the city with the 2021 National Women’s Under 18 Championship,” said Dean McIntosh, Vice-President of Events and Properties with Hockey Canada. “The community support at previous Hockey Canada events in Dawson Creek has been outstanding, and we know this event will be well-received by fans, community partners and volunteers in 2021.”
The 2021 National Women’s Under-18 Championship Host Committee is looking to continue its historic success partnering with Hockey Canada to host events. The relationship began in 2009 when the City of Dawson Creek hosted Canada’s Women’s Olympic Team’s summer camp leading up to the 2010 Olympics, and with the 2012 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2015 and 2017, the 2019 World Junior A Challenge, and once again, the National Women’s Under-18 Championship.
“We knew after signing a historic long-term hosting agreement with Hockey Canada that we would see a variety of events come to Dawson Creek. Having the 2021 National Women’s Under-18 Championship and its legacy of National Team Alumni is an opportunity for the hockey fans of the region to see some of the very best,” said Dale Bumstead, Mayor of Dawson Creek. “We are thrilled to showcase Dawson Creek, the Peace Region and the Ovintiv Events Centre to the world as we prepare to host another prestigious event.”
