Global Spectrum at the Encana Events Centre Raises Big Bucks for Big Bike

Published: Jul 8, 2014

Dawson Creek, B.C. – This year's Big Bike fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation raised just over $12,000 in Dawson Creek, with $1800 of that coming from The Encana Events Centre. The Encana Events Centre doubled their initial team goal of $750 due to overwhelming support from the staff and our community.

"This charity has a personal connection for many of our staff," said Ryan MacIvor, General Manager of Global Spectrum Facility Management at The Encana Events Centre. "Heart disease and stroke are some of the biggest killers in Canada, and we're proud to do what we can to help stop it."

Participants in the Big Bike gained pledges from the public as well as participated in a Community Kids Carnival Team Fundraiser with the Co-op, an online auction and then followed through by riding the Big Bike itself. The massive contraption accommodates 29 riders at a time (plus one driver) and toured around downtown Dawson Creek.

Prior to setting out on their two kilometer Big Bike Challenge, Global Spectrum at Encana Events Centre employees warmed up with a spirited and energetic exercise routine that sent a message to participants about the risk factors involved in heart & stroke. The Big Bike Challenge continues to engage Canadians across the country. Last year, over 40,000 riders, in 200+ communities, helped raise more than $7 million for research for the disease. Event organizers shared that one of the most important factors to lowering heart attacks and stroke is awareness. As if the giant bike weren't enough to draw attention, the team attracted crowds with noisemakers, team cheering, and some raging enthusiasm.
