CITY OF DAWSON CREEK ENTERS 5 YEAR HOSTING AGREEMENT WITH HOCKEY CANADA

Published: Jun 6, 2018

Dawson Creek, BC. – The City of Dawson Creek in partnership with Spectra Venue Management will be entering into a five-year hosting agreement with Hockey Canada. This partnership will create a long-term certainty in a location for Hockey Canada and their events. This agreement will be a great benefit for the City of Dawson Creek and the Peace region as it will bring positive economic and social impacts.

This is a new model and approach for Hockey Canada and the City of Dawson Creek. This historic partnership will identify diversity in events with approximately one event being hosted at the Encana Events Centre every 18-24 months. Events may include World Parahockey Tournament, World Junior A Challenge, pre-competition opportunities, training camps and a yet to be determined event.

With the announcement of this partnership also comes the hosting announcement of the Canadian Women’s National Camp which will be held in Dawson Creek in September.

"Hockey Canada has identified Dawson Creek as a great partner community to pilot the concept of a long-term hosting agreement whereby the community and Hockey Canada mutually benefit through long term financial legacy but equally important the social, infrastructure and community hockey legacy" said Hockey Canada’s Dean McIntosh, Vice President of Events and Properties.

“This is an incredible opportunity to develop a long-term partnership with Hockey Canada and reinforces our city’s ability to execute events at a world class level. The ability to host events over the next five years provides so many benefits to our community and region that will leave a long-lasting impact” stated Dale Bumstead, Mayor of Dawson Creek.

Spectra and the Encana Events Centre have proved themselves time and time again that this facility and the City of Dawson Creek can host local, national and international events and create a positive economic impact to the region. “This is the first agreement of its kind in Canada with an arena and Hockey Canada and we are excited for this partnership. Hockey Canada will be a primary tenant now until 2024” said Spectra’s Ryan MacIvor, General Manager of the Encana Events Centre.

The City of Dawson Creek has proved itself to be a great host community on all levels and will continue to do so with this newly developed partnership with Hockey Canada.
