The season's Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event, the The National is scheduled to take place at the EnCana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, B.C. from January 25-29. The The National is one of the four men's major curling events that are highlighted during the World Curling Tour season. Invitations have been extended to World's Top 18 Men's Teams as ranked by the Order of Merit.

"The The National is a difficult tournament to win," said Kevin Koe, the skip of Team Koe, the 2010 World Champions. "To qualify for this event means you are one of the top teams in the world and there are just no easy games. We had a good run last time we played in Dawson Creek at the 2010 Grey Power Players' Championship so we are looking forward to returning"

Potential competitors for the 2012 The National include: 2010 Vancouver Olympic gold medalist Kevin Martin (Edmonton, Alta.), 2011 World Champion Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, Man.) Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.), David Murdoch (Lockerbie, Scotland), Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, Alta.), and Wayne Middaugh (Midland, Ont.) as well as 2006 Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue (St. John's, Nfld.)
